President Trump (why does that feel so hard to say?) has been true to his promise to not take his Presidential salary by giving the first quarter to the National Parks Service.
This is funny, however, because his proposed budget cuts would severely cut funding or the National Parks Service.
From the Libertarian (Disclaimer: I’m a Libertarian) standpoint, however, it shouldn’t matter if the there are cuts because a private business could take over. With that said, that’s not how this county is run. While we still have government running and funding all of the services we enjoy, perhaps we shouldn’t cut funding for the Department preserving nature. You know, the thing we can’t survive without. I digress.
“’The park service has cared for our parks since 1916, and the president is personally proud to contribute the first quarter of his salary to the important mission of the park service, which is preserving our country’s national security,’” Mr. Spicer said. But in picking a government agency, Mr. Trump chose one with a large backlog of deferred maintenance that could be deferred even longer under his budget. Mr. Trump proposed a cut of $1.5 billion, or 12 percent, from the Interior Department, which oversees the park service and other agencies. The proposal did not specify how much of that would come out of the park service budget,” reported the New York Times.
